If you’re looking to replace your guttering, it’s important to keep budget in mind. Typically, you’ll need to budget for two things: gutter installation cost (or the labor that it takes to put your new gutters up) and the cost of gutters and materials (which includes all materials needed during the installation process – from the gutters themselves to the hangers, screws, splash blocks, and other hardware). Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” pricing for new gutter systems.

Each company will charge a different rate for labor, and, depending on where the manufacturer, may also have vastly different pricing for the materials as well. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Eavestrough prices will vary widely depending on the scope of the job as well. The size and unique features of your home, current condition of your fascia board and soffit, and the type of gutter system you want to have installed all factor differently into eavestrough prices.

Size and Features

Does your home have multiple stories? Do you have a lot of inside or outside corners, or hard to reach eavestroughs? This will influence the cost of gutters for your home, as they may require special equipment and make labor a little more intensive. A basic ranch home typically has a cheaper gutter installation cost than an intricate, multi-story Victorian home.

Condition of Existing Hardware

The soffit and the fascia board are two extremely important components of your guttering system. Depending on the state of your current gutters, you may have big problems on your hands.

If you haven’t cleaned your gutters in a while, animals may have made a home of your gutters. This can be dangerous for gutter installers to handle, and may take some time to eliminate. It may be a good idea to hire a wildlife removal professional before the date of your gutter installation, otherwise, if the gutter installer has to take care of it, this can increase the cost of labor.

In addition, if the gutters have pulled away from your home, leaving the fascia board and soffit exposed to the elements, you may have mold, mildew, and wood rot to deal with. This can even lead to mold making its way into your rafters, roof decking, and shingles, which will also require maintenance. If the installer needs to replace any or all of these parts of your home in addition to installing new gutters, you may be looking at a much higher eavestroughs prices for the added labor.

Type of Guttering

As we talked about in our previous post about the many different types of gutters available to homeowners, your preferences can have a great impact of the price of your new gutter system. Depending on the material, shape, and size of your gutters, you may be able to save money, or it could end up costing you more.

It is important to consider the long-term cost of gutters as well. The cheaper the type of gutter, the more expensive it may be in the long run to maintain. Cheap gutters may rust, crack, or buckle easier than more expensive types. By investing in quality guttering up front, you may not have to worry about a malfunctioning system for many years to come.

Be sure to compare the different types of gutters and evaluate for your budget before making a final decision.

Average Cost of New Gutters

Because of all of these variables, it is difficult to pinpoint how much your new gutter system will cost without a professional estimate. A professional will speak with you about the unique features of your home and your personal preferences to give you the most accurate gutter installation cost.

HomeAdvisor estimates that “most homeowners spent between $538-$1,252” on gutter installation cost, although some homeowners will fall outside these averages.
