Now that it’s almost summer, you may notice your lawn looks brown and lifeless. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways you can improve your lawn’s appearance so you can boost your curb appeal and enjoy the warmer months in a nice outdoor environment. Here are a few tips to help you bring your lawn back to life.

Mow Frequently

The more often you mow, the quicker your grass will grow and recover. If possible, try to mow at least once every two weeks in the spring and once a week in the summer. When you are mowing, make sure your mower blade isn’t set too low to prevent the soil beneath it from drying out too quickly.

Water Your Lawn

Your lawn needs watering over the spring and summer months, just like your plants. If you can water your lawn on a weekly basis, you’ll keep it in good shape and ensure it turns and stays green. It’s best to provide your lawn with at least one inch of water every week.

Apply Fertilizer

When shopping for fertilizer, purchase the kind that is made for your specific grass and contains nitrogen as well as multiple other ingredients. You should apply fertilizer once or twice a year.

Aerate

An aerator is a garden tool that is designed to punch holes in soil in order to aid with the growth of lawn grass. It can improve soil damage and help get your lawn into tip-top shape. Use a manual or electric aerator to create holes in your lawn so that they can deliver moisture directly into your lawn’s roots.

Kill Weeds

Once you’ve noticed your grass starting to grow strong, treat the weeds, rather than the entire lawn with a herbicide. This way, the grass will be able to take in more moisture and nutrients.

Stay Off the Lawn

Try to keep yourself and your family members and guests off the lawn as much as possible. By eliminating foot traffic, your lawn will have an easier time absorbing moisture.

Once you’ve revived your lawn and are pleased with the way it looks, resume your regular lawn maintenance schedule. This schedule should include regular weeding, mowing, watering, and aeration.
